Increase Drawing Area in Google Sheet Drawings: You have made a drawing in Google Sheet. But the space for the drawing is limited. How to expand that area? I will explain you how to do it.
This is a common frustration. The “Insert > Drawing” window inside Google Sheets has a fixed canvas size that doesn’t have a clear “resize” handle, like the standalone Google Drawings app does.

Increase Drawing Area in Google Sheet Drawings
Here are the best ways to get more space for your diagram:
Option 1: The “Zoom Out” Trick (Quickest Fix)
Since you cannot physically make the canvas larger in the pop-up window, you can make your drawing smaller relative to the canvas.
Open your drawing by double-clicking it.
In the toolbar, click the Zoom icon (magnifying glass) or click View > Zoom.
Select 50%.
Now, the canvas looks much bigger. You can draw your diagram using this extra space.
Pro Tip: If your existing drawing is already taking up all the space, press Ctrl + A (Select All) and drag the corner handle to shrink your entire diagram. Now you have more empty white space to add new elements.(This is my favourite method )
Option 2: Use the Standalone Google Drawings App
Use the Standalone Google Drawings App (Best for Large Diagrams)
For complex diagrams where you need a specific canvas size or lots of room, the built-in Sheets tool is too limited.
Go to drawings.google.com (this is the full version of the tool).
Go to File > Page setup.
Change “Standard 4:3” to Custom and enter a large size (e.g., 20 x 20 inches).
Create your detailed diagram here.
When finished, press Ctrl + A (Select All) and Ctrl + C (Copy).
Go back to your Google Sheet, open a drawing window (Insert > Drawing), and Paste it in.
Option 3: Crop/Resize the Final Image
Sometimes the “limited space” is just visual “padding.”
If you have a lot of empty white space around your drawing that is wasting space, click the Crop tool (the icon that looks like two intersecting corners) inside the drawing editor to trim the whitespace.
